Taurus Flavors’ original Hoagy Shop was located 943 1/2 W 79th Street in the heart of the south side of Chicago. Started on April 29, 1966 by Edward and Bernice Perkins, Taurus grew to multiple locations and by 1976 had 13 locations and by 1980 increased to 15 locations.
Ice Cream was the primary product of Taurus Flavors and Taurus Ice Cream was distributed city wide. In addition to the many flavors of Ice Cream, the main two food products were the Hoagy Supreme and The Master Dog. The Master Dog was phased out in favor of the ever popular Supreme Steak in the early 70s.

The Supreme Steak is a Chicago style philly steak with the signature sweet peppers and the unmistakable often imitated but never duplicated, Taurus Sweet Sauce. People come from all over to experience the great taste of Taurus Flavors.
Over the years, the Hoagy Supreme has remained steadfast. It has changed slightly since its introduction. We have replaced the pork products for a leaner, healthier choice. Our Hoagy is now made with a variety of smoked turkey meats. The ham, pastrami and salami are now all turkey based. We think it improved the taste and our customers are happier than ever.
Many people remember “Ice Cream City” in Harvey, IL. That was owned and operated by Taurus Flavors. It was a full service restaurant built from the ground up to service the community of Harvey.
As we leap into the future, we will continue provide quality food at reasonable prices. We look forward to embracing our 50th year in 2016. Your satisfaction is our deepest concern!
